Ruapehu volcano erupted intermittently between September and November 1995, and June and July 1996, producing juvenile andesitic
scoria and bombs. The volcanic activity was characterized by small, sequential phreatomagmatic and strombolian eruptions.
The petrography and geochemistry of dated samples from 1995 (initial magmatic eruption of 18 September 1995, and two larger
events on 23 September and 11 October), and from 1996 (initial and larger eruptions on 17–18 June) suggest that episodes of
magma mixing occurred in separate magma pockets within the upper part of the magma plumbing system, producing juvenile andesitic
magma by mixing between relatively high (1000–1200 °C)- and low (∼1000 °C)- temperature (T) end members. Oscillatory zoning
in pyroxene phenocrysts suggests that repeated mixing events occurred prior to and during the 1995 and 1996 eruptions. Although
the 1995 and 1996 andesitic magmas are products of similar mixing processes, they display chronological variations in phenocryst
clinopyroxene, matrix glass, and whole-rock compositions. A comparison of the chemistry of magnesian clinopyroxene in the
four tephras indicates that, from 18 September through June 1996, the tephras were derived from at least two discrete high-temperature
(high-T) batches of magma. Crystals of magnesian clinopyroxene in the 23 September and 11 October tephras appear to be derived
from different high-T magma batches. Whole-rock and matrix-glass compositions of all tephras are consistent with their derivation
from distinct mixed melts. We propose that, prior to 1995 there was a shallow low-temperature (low-T) magma storage system
comprising crystal-rich mush and remnant magma from preceding eruptive episodes. Crystal clots and gabbroic inclusions in
the tephras attest to the existence of relict crystal mush. At least two discrete high-T magmas were then repeatedly injected
into the mush zone, forming discrete and mixed magma pockets within the shallow system. The intermittent 1995 and 1996 eruptions
sequentially tapped these magma pockets.

A large area (5×1010km2) of a coronal hole disappeared in concert with a transient brightening of a nearby high-latitude coronal arcade in the northern hemisphere on 15 May 1992. This coronal-hole disappearance took place in a time scale of half a day. It is suggested that the large-scale and quick change in coronal-hole geometry induced the eruption of originally closed coronal magnetic structure of the high-latitude arcade. An associated solar wind disturbance with the plasma speed of >700 km/sec was observed by IPS, and geomagnetic sudden commencement was reported on 18 May 1992. 相似文献

In high-temperature volcanic fumaroles (>400 °C), the isotopic composition of molecular hydrogen (H2) reaches equilibrium with that of the fumarolic H2O. In this study, we used this hydrogen isotope exchange equilibrium of fumarolic H2 as a tracer for the remote temperature at volcanic fumaroles. In this remote sensing, we deduced the hydrogen isotopic composition (δD value) of fumarolic H2 from those in the volcanic plume. To ascertain that we can estimate the δD value of fumarolic H2 from those in a volcanic plume, we estimated the values in three fumaroles with outlet temperatures of 630 °C (Tarumae), 203 °C (Kuju), and 107 °C (E-san). For this we measured the concentration and δD value of H2 in each volcanic plume, along with those determined directly at each fumarole. The average and maximum mixing ratios of fumarolic H2 within a plume’s total H2 were 97% and 99% (at Tarumae), 89% and 96% (at Kuju), and 97% and 99% (at E-san). We found a linear relationship between the depletion in the δD values of H2, with the reciprocal of H2 concentration. Furthermore, the estimated end-member δD value for each H2-enriched component (−260 ± 30‰ vs. VSMOW in Tarumae, −509 ± 23‰ in Kuju, and −437 ± 14‰ in E-san) coincided well with those observed at each fumarole (−247.0 ± 0.6‰ in Tarumae, −527.7 ± 10.1‰ in Kuju, and −432.1 ± 2.5‰ in E-san). Moreover, the calculated isotopic temperatures at the fumaroles agreed to within 20 °C with the observed outlet temperature at Tarumae and Kuju. We deduced that the δD value of the fumarolic H2 was quenched within the volcanic plume. This enabled us to remotely estimate these in the fumarole, and thus the outlet temperature of fumaroles, at least for those having the outlet temperatures more than 400 °C. By applying this methodology to the volcanic plume emitted from the Crater 1 of Mt. Naka-dake (the volcano Aso) where direct measurement on fumaroles was impractical, we estimated that the δD value of the fumarolic H2 to be −172 ± 16‰ and the outlet temperature to be 868 ± 97 °C. The Space Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) is planned to be the next space astronomy mission observing
in the infrared. The mission is planned to be launched in 2017 and will feature a 3.5 m telescope cooled to <5 K through the
use of mechanical coolers. These coolers will also cool the focal plane instruments thus avoiding the use of consumables and
giving the mission a long lifetime. SPICA’s large, cold aperture will provide a two order of magnitude sensitivity advantage
over current far infrared facilities (>30 microns wavelength). We describe the scientific advances that will be made possible
by this large increase in sensitivity and give details of the mission, spacecraft and focal plane conceptual design.

Eruptive products of the Shirataka volcano (0.9–0.7 Ma) in NE Japan are calc-alkaline andesite–dacite, and are divisible into
six petrologic groups (G1–G6). Shirataka rocks possess mafic inclusions—basalt–basaltic andesite, except for G3 and G4. All
rocks show mixing and mingling of the mafic and silicic end-members, with trends defined by hosts and inclusions divided into
high-Cr and low-Cr types; both types coexist in G1, G2, and G5. Estimated mafic end-members are high-Cr (1120–1170°C, 48–51%
SiO2, olv ± cpx ± plg) and low-Cr type magmas (49–52% SiO2, cpx ± plg) except for the Sr isotopic composition. In contrast, the silicic end-members of both types have similar petrologic
features (790–840°C, 64–70% SiO2, hbl ± qtz ± px + plg). High-Cr type mafic and corresponding silicic end-members have lower 87Sr/86Sr ratios than the low-Cr ones in each group. The trace element model calculations suggest that the low-Cr type mafic end-member
magma is produced through ca. 20% fractional crystallization (olv ± cpx ± plg) from the high-Cr type one with assimilation
of granitoids (r = 0.02–0.05). The silicic magmas are producible through <30% partial remelting of previously emplaced basaltic magma with
assimilation of crustal components. The compositional difference between the low-K and medium-K basalts in the Shirataka volcano
is mainly attributed to the different degrees of the effect of subduction derived fluid by dehydration of phlogopite.

It has been suggested by Biermann that in rotating stars the electron partial pressure could generate a toroidal magnetic field of a considerable strength. However, Mestel and Roxburgh have shown recently that the generation of such a toroidal magnetic field could almost completely be suppressed when a weak primodial poloidal magnetic field exists in the star. In this paper it is shown that a toroidal magnetic field of a moderate strength could be generated even in the presence of a primodial poloidal magnetic field, if the effect of radiation pressure is taken into consideration. Marine Pliocene and Pleistocene beds of the Boso Peninsula are more than 3 km thick and contain abundant fauna and flora. Almost continuous deposition occurred at a high sedimentation rate from the early part of the last reversed geomagnetic polarity epoch to the middle part of the last normal polarity epoch. Several microbiostratigraphic marker horizons enable correlation with deep-sea sediments fully independent of magnetostratigraphic zonation. Globorotalia truncatulinoides first occurs below the normal polarity event BO-B-2, which is correlated with the Olduvai Event in deep-sea sediments, whereas the disappearance of discoasters and the first occurrence of Gephyrocapsa caribbeanica are recognized at the top of BO-B-2, and the first occurrence of Gephyrocapsa oceanica is recognized at the top of BO-B-1. Based on the correlation of the Boso section with Mediterranean stage stratotype sections, the transition from the Pliocene to Pleistocene is estimated to be in the lower part of the Kazusa Group. 相似文献

The evolution of azimuthal modulation of the solar wind is examined by numerical integration of the basic equations governing supersonic, super-Alfvénic, polytropic one fluid flow in the equatorial plane of the Sun with radial as well as azumuthal magnetic fields. The computations are started by introducing various sets of finite amplitude perturbations stationary with respect to the Sun. It is shown that for a properly chosen set of simultaneous perturbations of the radial velocity and temperature, quantitative agreement with the averaged observational results at 1 AU can be obtained, including the advance of the density modulation with respect to those of velocity and temperature. In order to clarify detailed current structures over the continental shelf margin in the East China Sea, ADCP measurements were carried out in summers in 1991 and 1994 by the quadrireciprocal method (Katoh, 1988) for removing diurnal and semidiurnal tidal flows from observed flows, together with CTD measurements. We discussed the process of the Tsushima Current formation in the East China Sea. The Tsushima Current with a volume transport of 2 Sv (1 Sv=106 m3s–1) was found north of 31°N. A current with a volume transport of 0.4 Sv was clearly found along the 100 m isobath. Between the Kuroshio and the current along the 100 m isobath, southeastward component of velocity was dominant compared to northwestward one. Four eastward to southeastward currents were found over the sea bed shallower than 90 m depth. Total volume transport of these four currents was 1 Sv, and they seemed to be originated from the Taiwan Strait. Intrusion of offshore water into the inner shelf northwest of Amami Oshima was estimated to have a volume transport of 0.6 Sv. It is concluded that the Tsushima Current is the confluence of these currents over the continental shelf margin with the offshore water intruding northwest of Amami Oshima. 相似文献
